THE SETTING
WELCOME TO PARALIA
Boats & Birds takes place in a fictional seaside city called Paralia, the largest city in its fictional country and one of the world's most successful cultural melting pots of its time. Enclosed by the ocean to the West and North and land to the East and South, it's ports are some of the most frequently used, and the boats for which the site is titled after almost always liter harbors. In addition, hype over flight and the airplanes that accompany it is rather huge worldwide, and such things as planes and blimps aren't uncommon, but well appreciated when they fly overhead. In terms of technology and scientific advancements, Paralia sits where any country in the mid 1920s would – the time frame in which this roleplay takes place – although their cultural and societal standards have developed beyond that still.
Magic is commonplace, although only about a fourth of the city's citizens are capable of using it. Many magic wielders run shops and offer their abilities as services, or use such powers to, say, deliver mail and goods among other things. Fish from the sea have been known to grow legs and arms and walk with the people in the streets as if they, themselves were human beings without anyone batting an eye. Paralia may not be a paradise bursting with continuous excitement, but with a past with with peace and a future that's looking bright, we couldn't offer you a better place to settle down and live each day to the fullest.
Enjoy the seaside, friend, and – more than anything – enjoy your stay.
