biography
honestly, finn is much too old to act how she does. but perhaps to understand why she does what she does, let's go back to the beginning.
fionnghuala (pronounce fin-WAH-lah) connolly is the oldest of two children. her younger sister, maeve, was always the more responsible, level-headed one of the two. born into a family of magi, the girls were surrounded by magic and mystery their whole life. maeve took after their mother, who was responsible and used her magic for... responsible things. meanwhile, finn (as she prefers to be called) was more rambunctious and always played pranks with her father leading the way. the two had a close bond, and it's easy to see that finn was a daddy's girl. finn and her mother often butt heads because finn was supposed to be the "role model" for her younger sister, but she was far from it.
finn got a lot of her bad habits from her father, as bad as that sounds. he smoked a lot, and monkey see monkey do, finn wanted to be just like him so she tried it out when she was younger. her mother absolutely hated it, and for a while, finn was punished severely and so she stopped smoking for quite a while. her father also got punished (though emotionally so) for being a bad influence on their already trouble-making daughter.
their family was in the business of odds and ends, or at least her father was. he was a collector of sorts, and made his money by bartering for things of value. he would find something strange, or a magical trinket that could come in handy, and he'd trade it for things that the family actually needed. but sometimes, he wouldn't. sometimes he grew selfish with it, and would trade for something he wanted. finn's mother was growing desperate and was always on edge, and finn only realized the toils of the family when her father was gone.
he died in his sleep, suddenly and out of the blue. it was a mystery, how he died, though modern medicine in today's world would deduce that it was from a sudden bursting of a blood-vessel in his brain. finn was devastated, but it didn't take her mother long to recover from the loss. by the third day of his death, she had already sold more than half of his belongings and seemed to have forgotten about her husband altogether. finn grew more rebellious, started smoking again, and took off with just a bag full of clothes and her father's pocket watch that her mother hadn't managed to pilfer away yet. she hasn't seen either since.
now a full-grown woman, finn has made her peace without a family. she doesn't like commitment due to deeply rooted familial issues, and she doesn't really dabble in the affairs of others for long. though she isn't necessarily a recluse either; she has recently wanted to take on an apprentice (or two) to help her with her growing oddities shop. a shop that would make her father proud. though are all of her items truly valuable? it's all up to you.
she lives (somewhat) peacefully in paralia and doesn't intend to go anywhere else anytime soon.
